Today is the anniversary of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 which prohibits racial discrimination in voting.
It’s 2024 and we’re still seeing racially motivated legislation attempting to make voting harder for Black and Brown folks across the US. The work is not done.
We stand in the legacy of multi-faith organizing which is at the core of the Faith in Action network.

A statement from our Executive Director, Bishop Dwayne Royster on President Biden’s ending his candidancy for re-election.
“Following President Joe Biden’s announcement this afternoon that he is ending his candidacy for re-election, I am writing you to share that we at Faith in Action thank President Biden for his lifetime of service and affirm our steadfast focus on ensuring that all voters, especially Black and Brown voters, who are all-too-often ignored and taken for granted, can — and do — vote this November.”

A statement from Omar Perez, our Immigrant Justice Director:
“Immigrants are not political pawns to be used to score points and amass power. They are people with inherent dignity and worth seeking the opportunity to live in safety and support their families. The fact that one of the major political parties in this nation is blatantly calling for mass deportation and continuing to weaponize immigration policy to divide and conquer should anger all people of conscience and good will. Mass deportation is not a solution to our broken immigration system; it’s a symptom of a failed policy approach that prioritizes punitive measures over real solutions. We need comprehensive reforms that uphold human dignity, respect due process, and address the root causes of migration.”

ICE OUT OF PRINCETON.
Yesterday @faithinnj along with @resistencianj
@princetonmutualaid, Solidaridad, @maketheroadnj @daylaborernetwork @njimmigrantjustice hosted a press conference in response to recent ICE raids. Immigrant justice leaders told stories and called for unity in the community.
During the press conference, a faith leader said they witnessed ICE agents harassing people on bicycles who were “brown-skinned.”
“Just because of their complexion they decided it was okay for them to harass people,” the religious leader said. He recalled following ICE agents around that day and seeing residents dodge out of the way because “the agents were driving recklessly.”

On the 10th anniversary of Eric Garner`s murder, we hold close to the grief we feel as well as the urgency to fight for the safety of all our community members as well as police accountability.
As people of faith, we also understand that breath is holy and sacred and how unbelievably unjust it is for it to be taken away in such an indignant way. We join Eric Garner`s family and loved ones in their grief and remembrance of such a beloved father, son, and friend.
